REALTOR® is a registered trademark that identifies a real estate professional who is a member of the National Association of Realtors. The National Association of REALTORS® is a trade association of real estate agents in the United States. It is the world's largest professional association and claims a trademark on the term REALTOR®. Membership is voluntary, therefore not all licensees are REALTORS®. The real estate professional who is a member of the NAR subscribes to its strict Code of Ethics which include duties to clients, customers, the public, and to other REALTORS®.

Although the term REALTOR® is sometimes used interchangeably with real estate agent In the United States and parts of the Commonwealth (including Canada and Australia), a real estate agent is a person who assists and advises others in transactions involving real estate. Practicing this profession usually requires a license. Some individuals who are licensed to act as real estate agents are not NAR members.
